Lightrains is hiring a Database Administrator (DBA) to own the database layer behind the enterprise applications and data platforms the team builds. You will work next to the backend engineers who design the schemas and write the queries, and you will be the person who keeps those databases healthy once they reach production.

This is a full-time role.

What you will do

  • Administer PostgreSQL and MySQL in production, along with the other relational databases our projects run on
  • Monitor database health, query latency and resource usage, and act on problems before they become incidents
  • Tune slow queries, indexes and server configuration
  • Set up backup, recovery, replication and high availability, and check that restores actually work
  • Manage roles, permissions and audit logging
  • Plan and run migrations and schema changes, and support data integration workflows
  • Troubleshoot production issues, find the root cause and fix it so it does not come back
  • Review data models and scaling plans with backend engineers before they ship
  • Keep runbooks, monitoring procedures and operational documentation up to date

Required Skills

  • Hands-on experience running PostgreSQL, MySQL or both in production
  • Solid understanding of relational database architecture, query plans and SQL optimization
  • Experience with replication, backup and recovery, and performance tuning
  • Working knowledge of database security: user permissions, access control and encryption
  • Comfortable on Linux and with standard database administration tools
  • A methodical approach to diagnosing performance and availability problems

Good to Have

  • Redis, MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
  • Managed database services such as AWS RDS or Google Cloud SQL
  • ETL pipelines and data warehousing
  • Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD workflows
  • Database monitoring with Prometheus, Grafana or similar tools
  • Automating routine database operations with Python or shell scripts

Who should apply

Someone who takes ownership of database reliability and understands how an architecture decision made today shows up in production months later. You can work independently, and you would rather catch a missing index in code review than during an outage.

Perks and Benefits

  • 5 Days Working
  • Flexible Timings
  • Learning possibilities (conferences, meet-ups, courses, etc.)
  • Additional equipment budget
  • Paid time off
